New Zealand’s Scapegrace Distilling Co. is set to accelerate its growth in Australia with the brand announcing it’s taking over its Australian distribution from August 1st.
The new direct to market approach will see Scapegrace employ a dedicated Australian sales team to enhance its existing relationships and grow new business across all states.Hailing from New Zealand’s beautiful Central Otago region, Scapegrace has built a reputation as a global leader in premium spirits, with an award winning portfolio spanning Single Malt Whisky, Gin, Vodka, and RTDs. In 2024, the brand unveiled its new home, a state-of-the-art, AUD $27 million distillery on the shores of Lake Dunstan where it crafts its full range of spirits.
Co-Founder Daniel McLaughlin says with the new distillery allowing for an increase in production, the time is right for the brand to grow its presence in Australia.“Australia is a key market for Scapegrace. There are natural synergies between New Zealand and Australia when it comes to taste, culture, and drinking occasions, and we know there’s the opportunity for us to strengthen our offering there,” said McLaughlin.
“We’ll be putting a greater focus on Australia with increased investment in retail, on-premise, and brand building. Bringing distribution in-house will also give us more control and the ability to scale quickly.”
Scapegrace is the market leader in New Zealand and has earned a growing list of international accolades. In 2025, Vanguard Single Malt Whisky won gold at the World Whisky Awards, while Anthem Single Malt Whisky was awarded a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). Scapegrace Gin has previously been named World’s Best London Dry Gin at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London.
