For Immediate Release
Mons Royale is bringing snow to the city with the opening of its new flagship store in central Auckland.
The expertly designed merino performance-wear brand today opened the doors to its first North Island retail space, welcoming a queue of Aucklanders into its world of mountains, motion, and natural fibre.
“From snow to streetwear, we’re thrilled to be opening a retail space in New Zealand’s biggest city,” said Co-Founder and Creative Director, Hannah Acland.
“This will be Auckland’s portal to the mountains. We know many Aucklanders are passionate about the outdoors, and this space gives them everything they need for their next adventure.”
The Britomart store will feature Mons Royale’s high-performance merino wool apparel - built for snow sports and alpine missions, and all designed with a fashionable flair in mind. The range includes technical base layers, mid layers, outerwear, underwear, and accessories that perform in the elements and look good too.
Beyond retail, the store will serve as a hub for community, culture, and climate. In-store updates and snow reports will connect visitors with the slopes of Tūroa, Treble Cone, Whistler and Innsbruck in real time.
“The driving force behind designing the space was to bring nature and energy together, allowing the product and the material to speak for itself,” said Hannah.
“Historically, the brand has been really strong in the Northern Hemisphere. We currently sell more gear in Zurich than we do in Auckland so opening this space feels like a really appropriate homecoming and an opportunity to continue to grow our roots and community here in Aotearoa.”
Founded in 2009 by husband and wife duo Hamish and Hannah Acland, Mons Royale has grown from a passion project into a global merino wool leader. Today, the brand is stocked in around 1,000 stores worldwide and has a cult following among skiers, snowboarders, and mountain bikers.
The Britomart store is located at 5 Gore Street and is Mons Royale’s seventh retail location. While many clothing retailers are moving to online only, Mons Royale is doubling down on bricks and mortar, last year opening a store in Wānaka, as well as a store in Whistler, Canada.
“Physical stores are working really well for us,” said Mons Royale CEO and Co-Founder Hamish Acland.
“They’re more than just retail spaces, they’re community hubs and a statement of who we are. We’ve built a great brand reputation and after 15 years, our customers know they can rely on us for sustainable, high-quality gear for whatever mountain mission they’re planning.”
